Jase steps out into the street. The day had been long and trying. I need my bed. He stands under the warm light of a lamp post, Adjusting his scarf around his neck.
The door opens. It was Aizlyn. He hadn’t seen her since that day. He stares absentmindedly. Unaware of the smile on his lips.
He checks his watch. 6:35pm. The sun long gone. A chill settles in.
Zipping up his bomber jacket, He heads toward his car. Anticipating a long day, He decided against the train.
Behind him, The sound of labored breathing. Jase stops. That’s not good.
He looks for the source. Aizlyn is slightly crouched. Hand on her chest. Hyperventilating.
Oh no. He is at her side within a second. He reaches for her. She grabs his arm. Breathing harder.
“Aizlyn, look at me! Aizlyn!” He takes both her hands in his. Holding them tight.
She lifted her head slowly. Focusing on him. “Ok, slow deep breaths, Aizlyn.” He squeezes her hands, Trying to calm her.
“Ja….se…” She tries to speak. “It’s ok. You’re ok.
Just slow, deep breaths. Slow. Deep. Breaths.” She’s shaking.
In. Out. Air filling her lungs. She begins to settle. Breathing easier.
Not her too. Jase examines her face. She looked ghostly. She felt cold and weak.
He freezes. A splash on the back of his hand. A tear. Then another. She’s crying.
